Sex, drugs and the animal kingdom

August 18th, 2006, under

Pleasurable Kingdom, a new book by the animal behaviour research scientist Jonathan Balcombe, argues that animals small and large do not only run away from pain and have feelings, but many of them in fact also have sex for non-reproductive reasons (including masturbation and homosexuality), and get high just for the sake of getting high. Somehow this would not really surprise me.

The related Wired News article can be read here, and the website of the book is here.
