Well, at least in the chimp world. According to the study reported at Live Science the reason why male chimps don’t have a preference for younger females is that chimp women don’t go through menopause, and don’t bother with partnerships, so they are reproductive longer. As for why the older is actually better, this is not entirely clear yet.

For some reason, my Firefox (2.0) has been acting up today. The problems seem to be related to reading CSS style sheets and other additional content properly. At first, I had trouble accessing some forums, which showed up as far too wide for my screen, and then later on with font colours that were identical to the background colour of the site. Then, I lost the ability to read my Bloglines account, which I could access, but where I could not see a single feed — neither in the “updated feeds” section, nor in the “edit feeds” are. NASA has lost contact with the Mars Global Surveyor, which was sent to Mars in 1996 to map the planet. It is, however, probable that communication will be restored soon. New Scientist Space has the story.

Hmm. Google Mail seems to have changed its look just now. There are suddenly rounded corners and drop-down lists with the posts. Interesting. Looks pretty ok, actually.

There are, actually, also some new features, apparently.

BBC News reports that the local elections held in a small town in South Dakota, US, have produced a winner from beyond the grave. Marie Steichen, whom cancer claimed in September, was kept in the ballot and ended up beating her Republican rival posthumously.
