Firefox crashes at uefa.com, gamespot.com

November 4th, 2006, under , , , ,

If your Firefox crashes when you try to access certain websites like uefa.com or gamespot.com (also michelin.com, linkedin.com, msgpluslive.net have been reported), see if you have the Firefox extension (aka add-on) called Extended Statusbar installed. If yes, disable it and try again.

Extended Statusbar is a neat little extension and is included on my list of favourite Firefox extensions. Unfortunately, with it crashing the browser I have been forced to disable it until the bug is fixed.

Are you sure it’s Extended Status bar causing problems? I have it installed and none of those sites do crash Firefox. Did you notice that all those websites have lots of flash content (except msgpluslive.net), which may be a part of your problem.

    Hi Risto. :)

Yes, the problem disappeared the moment I removed it. Moreover, others have reported similar issues (see Mozilla’s add-ons page). Also I actually suspected the flash content first.

It may of course be that the extension is conflicting with some other extension that I have installed. However, seeing that I am not the only one with the problem, and that I could get rid of the problem by just uninstalling the extension, it seems I won’t be using Extended Status Bar at least until the problem is fixed.
