Why no cat food made of mice

November 5th, 2008, under , ,

As I am eating my dinner, I wonder… If a cat’s natural food source is mice and other small rodents, why can’t I buy cat food made of rats and mice in the way I can buy cat food made of chicken and fish?

Because we humans are not comfortable buying anything made of small rodents?

Speed-eat yourself to Fatdom!

The title may make no sense, but BBC News reports that eating your meals really fast may be enough to double your chances of obesity. What the report doesn’t say, though, is whether this is simply because those who eat fast also tend to eat more.

I’m actually really only posting this because I thought I’d try the ScribeFire blogging extension for Firefox.

Olive oil facts

August 12th, 2007, under , ,

A study reported in Science Daily has discovered the following facts about olive oils:

1. Virgin and extra-virgin olive oils are healthier than refined brands.

2. You should not purchase olive oil that was pressed more than a year earlier.

3. Olive oils last for about one to two years when stored in a cool, dark place.

How much does it cost to super-size?

May 25th, 2006, under , ,

Well, where I live the question is rather meaningless, as the largest size you can get at fast food joints is “large”. Which in the case of Kentucky Fried Chicken is more or less the same as “regular”, anyway. But those living in countries more attuned to the joys of overeating may be interested to know that the answer is “between $4.06 and $7.72 for men and $3.10 and $4.53 for women, depending on their body type”. You can read about the study here, and debate about the flaws in its reasoning wherever you want (except for here, as comments are off).

Note to self: Never ever use the word “joint” again when referring to places that serve food. It just isn’t you.

Veggies make you slim

April 1st, 2006, under , , , ,

A review of 87 studies shows that, independent of how much you exercise, a vegetarian or a vegan diet keeps your weight in check. In fact, switching from meat-based diet leads to a weight loss of about 1 pound per week. And not only that, you encounter less heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

I’m hungry.

Fishpig

Researchers say that they have come up with a pig that produces omega-3 fatty acids instead of the omega-6 brand. Odd, say I.
